This morning, I had the honor of being invited by my Alma Mater (and College I am both an Instructor and Spokesperson of) the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM, to moderate a great panel discussion entitled "The Relationship of Film & TV Costumes to Current Fashion Trends".
This was part of the 15th Annual IFFTI Conference. IFFTI (International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes) was founded in 1999 and their mission is to develop a global network of institutions recognized as leaders in the advancement of education in Design, Technology and Business for fashion and its related industries through international collaboration.
The IFFTI Conference for this year was happening in Los Angeles at the Omni Hotel Los Angeles, and the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising was hosting it. Many representatives of fashion institutes from all over the world including Canada, India, Italy, Japan and many others, were in attendance at this morning's panel discussion. Our esteemed panelists included:
Lou Eyrich, Costume Designer of the hit FOX TV show, "GLEE", as well as "Nip/Tuck", and the TV series "American Horror Story". She received two Costume Designer Guild nominations for her work on "Nip/Tuck", and has received the Costume Designers Guild/CDG award for Outstanding Contemporary TV Series for "GLEE", 3 years in a row, along with this years’ win for "American Horror Story". Lou was also honored with the Career Achievement Award in 2012. She was nominated twice for an Emmy for an outstanding television series and was the recipient of the 2010 Hollywood Style Awards for outstanding Design in Television.
Panel Fab: Soyon An, Nick Verreos, Lou Eyrich and Tom Julian--IFFTI Conference 2013 Panel Discussion, Omni Hotel Los Angeles
Our final panelists was Tom Julian--Tom is a trend analyst and retail branding expert. Last month, he joined The Doneger Group as the Director of Strategic Development, where he is responsible for developing and implementing potential growth opportunities for the company.
After some introductions, both Lou and Soyon spoke on their experience in the TV/Film industry and how both of them are influenced by Fashion Trends (or not) especially in regards to the characters they are designing for...
