It's a (Academy Awards Fashion) Wrap!

This past Monday--the day after the Oscars--I was up early to go back to the "scene of the Red Carpet Crime"--the Hollywood & Highland Center, and site of Sunday's Academy Awards

It's Time For TV Guide's Academy Award Fashion Wrap! Nick Verreos and Tabatha Coffey--from the Oscars tossing to the Intro of TV Guide Network's "2013 Academy Award Fashion Wrap" TV Show

It is also where the TV Guide Network Studios are and where we film our post-award red carpet recap show--Fashion Wrap! Since this Academy Award Fashion Wrap is the "biggie", I made sure to drink extra coffee and have my "Fashion Homework" done (I studied ALL NIGHT LONG!), and I decided to "dress up" with my maroon velvet shawl-collared tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants and straight tie with a pearl pin.

Oscar Night!!

On Air! (left to right) Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey, and Marc Istook

Here we are on the day of the Oscars right as we were about to go LIVE to do our TV Guide Network "2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Show Hosted by Chris Harrison" Show.  I wore a Dolce & Gabbana black with tiny white polka-dotted silk satin tuxedo jacket I bought (Yes, BOUGHT Can you believe it!?), with my Zegna tuxedo shirt and Marc Jacobs Collection tuxedo pants. My NIKOLAKI design--and life--partner, David Paul styled me as he always does. Thank You David! For our filming position, we had a great location on the "balcony" position--or "Sky View" looking above the red carpet. We were right next to Kelly Osbourne and Ross Matthews of E! and various other Entertainment Shows--each of us had our own "box" on the balcony.

On The Red Carpet: (left to right) Marc Istook, Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey and Chris Harrison--Before we began our live coverage, we made sure to hit the red carpet for some photo-op's. Mainly, I wanted to make sure my "gal pal", Tabatha Coffey got a chance to have the photographers take red carpet pics of her in her Mark Zunino gown. I know if I was the designer of her gown, I would have wanted some red carpet photos of her in my gown...at the Oscars! So, we made sure to get those....and then we RAN up to our balcony to get mic'ed and ready for our LIVE "close-up"!

The Day Before (The Oscars):

Rehearsal Outfits: (left to right) Nick Verreos, Tabatha Coffey, Marc Istook--TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Show

As you may know a little awards show occurred on Sunday--yes, the Academy Awards. I was honored to be part of the TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Live Show Hosted by Chris Harrison once again this year as the Red Carpet Fashion Correspondent--along with "Hair Diva" Tabatha Coffey of Bravo's Tabatha Takes Over and Marc Istook, who was our Sky-view/Balcony "Main Man". We had a BLAST and I have to say, it was one of the most exciting Academy Awards Red Carpet show EVER!

I will have a PHOTO RECAP of Sunday after this blog post here...but first, it's time for the Pre-Oscars Rehearsal Blog Photo Gallery. On Saturday, we all had to do a Run-Thru and Rehearsal of how the show would go on Sunday. And before, during, and after, I got some photos of the day:

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2013 Vanity Fair Oscar Party: Part 2

More Couture Party Girls:

Anne Hathaway in Custom Saint Laurent: Congratulations to Anne Hathaway for winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. I admit, I was not a fan of her dusty rose Prada gown and I don't think this slate-gray blue gown from Saint Laurent is much better. It is very chic for sure and on Catherine Deneuve: I can totally see. But I expect more from Anne. I'd even give it a "good pass" on Natalie Portman--if she was pregnant. Those are my more-than-two cents.

Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Spring 2013: I LOVED this little cocktail dress the minute I saw the photos from the Giambattista Valli Couture Spring 2013 runways. It's ALL about that Watteau back. Bring it Miss Kruger. Bring it!

Oscar Party Couture:

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein: Loved the sequined column she changed into for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. It makes sense that she would go for a completely different silhouette if she wanted to do an outfit change. The gown fits her well and is right on-trend when it comes to being an all-over sequin gown.

Fan Bingbing in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013: Fan Bingbing wore a fuchsia Marchesa gown to the Academy Awards and for the Vanity Fair Party (above) this Oscar de la Renta mitered striped silk satin strapless ball gown with  a high waist/full gathered skirt silhouette. She is such the fashion-plate and well, looks like a DOLL in this. Only Fan Bingbing can pull off this kind of gown with all those stripes.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive

Jessica Chastain in Custom Armani Prive: Jessica looked St-St-STUNNING! last night in her Custom Armani Gown. The Gold Beaded Strapless Gown fit her to perfection. Nobody can make a Beaded Gown like Armani and he proved again that he is the master of the Red Carpet!

The light chestnut color of the the dress matched her hair to perfection (not an accident, I'm sure!)

And speaking of Hair....and make-up, it was classic "Old Hollywood" Glamour. The Veronica Lake Hairstyle with the Red Lip and lined eye was gorgeous!

What I love about this dress is the crystal beading over the Gold Colored Satin. Giorgio Armani certainly knows how to make a gown SPARKLE!!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen

Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen: Amanda wore a custom Alexander McQueen Gown to last night's Academy Awards. It was a Halter Neck Gown in a Blush Color with Golden Embroidery.

I'm sure that if you were looking at this dress up close and were able to touch and feel the beautiful craftsmanship it would be breathtaking, but on the Red Carpet it did not have much of an impact. It was sort of "blah" and washed her out. I feel that she continually wears these pale colors over and over again.

I would have loved to have seen this gown in a Deep Plum with the same gold embroidery detail. Now that would make a statement!

Amanda was another actress with a case of the "frizzies". I understand not wanting the hair to be "too done" but this takes it to a whole different level! I'm always surprised that they leave the house thinking that this is an Oscar Worthy Hairdo!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra

Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra: Kristen Stewart wore this Creme Devore Velvet Strapless Gown with Organza Ruffle Detail. This was a big MISS for me. It's not that it was a bad dress, but it was her overall look that didn't work for me.

She, of course, gets credit for even attending the Oscars since she was on crutches and was most likely in pain; but she looked pale and sickly and it looked as if her stylist just propped her up and put any ol' dress on her. This definitely was NOT her dress.

Probably the worst part of the whole look was her hair. I wondering if someone actually got paid to do that hair? We'll have to ask my Partner in Crime, Tabatha Coffey what she thinks!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Jennifer Hudson in Roberto Cavalli

Jennifer Hudson in Custom Roberto Cavalli: Jennifer Hudson chose to wear this midnight blue beaded Roberto Cavalli Gown to last night's Oscars. It featured long sleeves and a high slit but still showed off JHud's new trimmed down figure beautifully. It was not one of my favorite gowns of the night, but her stylist said she had 2 Cavalli dresses to choose from and went for the more subdued gown because she wasn't a nominee and was just performing.

I say a Diva should ALWAYS look like a Diva on the Red Carpet! I would have liked to have seen the gown she decided NOT to wear.

Her hair was flawless and those earrings were gorgeous! But....is that her black bra peeking out above?!

Either way, she looked beautiful and she KILLED IT with her performance on stage!

WHO WORE WHAT? 85th Annual Academy Awards: Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

Kerry Washington in Custom Miu Miu: Kerry's Miu Miu Gown was one of my favorites of the night. Mainly because of the beautiful coral color. While many actresses chose more muted hues or black, Kerry stood out amongst the crowd with this unexpected color.

The beaded top bustier section had a lovely vintage quality (that Miuccia Prada is known for) and the nude and gold beading set off against the bright colored skirt was beautiful.

She completed the look with a matching Fred Leighton clutch, delicate make-up and very subtle diamonds.

Good Job Kerry!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Charlize Theron in Custom Christian Dior

Charleze Theron in Custom Christian Dior: WORK it huney! Charleze SHUT IT DOWN at today's Academy Awards red carpet. She looked so good. Loved this strapless white peplum'ed bustier with floor-length skirt gown. The train length was just right and the fitted shape: DIVINE.

Pixie Queen: I have a good guess that my TV Guide Network Fashion Wrap DIVA--Miss Tabatha Coffey will say "Yeayyy!" to Charlize's hair. I would too! (PS: Look how long her neck looks: like on of my fashion sketches!)

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Anne Hathaway in Custom Prada

Anne Hathaway in Custom Prada: Yawn. Oh, sorry I spoke with my "Nick Loud Voice". This light pink Duchesse satin gown was a bore to me. Honestly., I expected more. I expected Fierce and Fabulous Valentino, or something! To me, this was a #Fail. It had no real interest as a gown and the darts at the bust fit oddly. This looked like something a second-year Fashion School student can make. Just sayin'...

 Her hair, though, was good.

What did you guys think? Let me know and leave your comments here of course :)

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Halle Berry in Custom Atelier Versace

Halle Berry in Custom Atelier Versace: One word: WOW! Seriously, when she stepped onto the Academy Awards red carpet, I almost threw myself over the TV Guide Network "skyview" balcony where I was working from doing my LIVE red carpet commentating. She looked STUNNING in this black and silver sequined column gown with plunging neckline, padded shoulders and long sleeves. It was made to a 1/4" of her body! I LOVE how the sequined stripes go in different directions and all, accentuating every perfect inch of her body:

You can see the similar aspects and details of her gown from the dresses Donatella Versace recently showed for her Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week:

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Jennifer Garner in Gucci Premiere

Jennifer Garner in Gucci Premiere: I saw this dress from atop the "balcony" while doing my TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet Live Show. She looked fabulous from up there! I loved the maroon/violet color and especially the back detail of cascading silk organza. She not only looks like a Movie Star but the wife of a man who is about to win multiple Academy Awards. Very Regal.

And speaking of regal: THAT necklace. Lord have mercy! That is a necklace worthy of a former Empress of Iran (how "Argo" apropos!).

Gucci Premiere, in case you don't know is the Custum Gucci arm of the Gucci Brand--mainly consisting of Red Carpet gowns created just for celebrities and made almost like the Haute Couture creations of Paris.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Reese Witherspoon in Custom Louis Vuitton

Reese Withersoon in Custom Lous Vuitton: Reese was pretty much perfect in this strapless "mermaid-Lite" style strapless gown in royal blue and black from Louis Vuitton. Reese loves this shape and we can see why. I think the fit was good and her hair: FLAWLESS. Now, I just want to mention the fact that this Custom Louis Vuitton gown:

Has NOTHING to do with what Marc Jacobs showed in his last Louis Vuitton Collection (above)--full of graphic prints and colors. Not even the shape, silhouette or anything corseted. The gown he showed were shift styles with barely a seam for fit in them--save for the side seams and center back. But somehow, it's still "Louis Vuitton". To me, it looked more like Oscar de la Renta. I guess when you get a Custom Gown from Vuitton, they can do whatever you want...

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Nicole Kidman in L'Wren Scott

2
2
Nicole Kidman in L'Wren Scott Fall 2013: This midnight blue sequined gown with gold detail was just shown on the runway. So, yes, it's "fresh off the model" and onto Nicole! I like the shape of the gown and we know she loves designer L'Wren Scott (Mick Jagger's partner-in-life). I think she's looked better--and worn better--at past red carpet events. And that hair: WHAT HAPPENED??? I'd be very curious to read what you guys think of the overall head-to-toe look...Let me know!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Sally Field in Valentino Couture

0
0
Sally Field in Valentino Haute Couture Fall 2012: This is one of THE BEST Sally Field has ever looked on the red carpet. Admittedly, she has had a couple misses but this time, I felt, she NAILED IT! Love the deep "Valentino Red" on her, the style, silhouette is appropriate and very diaphanous. I felt as if she might have been vibing a modern day Mrs. Lincoln in this 21st Century! It was like a modern day version of those Poofy Mary Todd Lincoln Gowns she was so famous for.

There was a lot of beautiful drama and fabric in the back of the dress but yet, it looked light as air. Simply gorgeous! Go on Sally Field and "Bravo", House of Valentino! What did you guys think?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Jennifer Aniston in Valentino Couture

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013:  Once again, RED Valentino. And Haute Couture. This gown was just shown on the Paris runways a couple of weeks back. I love that she wore COLOR. We are so used to seeing her in black, navy or variations of both so Thank You Jennifer! I also like that it was a ball gown as opposed to body-con.

What I am NOT a fan of is her beach-y hair. I think that's fine if she's wearing a Calvin Klein sheath but NOT in an Haute Couture gown. I am sure Tabatha Coffey, my TV Guide Network 2013 Academy Awards Fashion Wrap co-panelist, might disagree but well, you'll have to watch TOMORROW night at 8/7c on TV Guide Network...to find out!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture

0

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013: When Jennifer walked onto the red carpet, it was like "OK, kids we have a WINNER!". This is the type of gown one wins a Best Actress Oscar in.

Strapless silk heavy damask with princess seams and a dropped silhouette that then flares into a voluminous ball gown. The back was architectural and great as well. It was designed by Belgian Creative Director/Designer for Dior Raf Simons and this is his second Haute Couture collection for the House. What do you guys think? One of the best of the night?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Stacy Keibler in Naeem Khan

Stacy Keibler in Naeem Khan Fall 2013: Stacy Keibler chose a Silver and Black Metallic Beaded Halter Neck Gown by Naeem Khan.

Stacy is always stunning and statuesque but this dress was one of her best Red Carpet looks yet. The beading had the feel of draped chain mail and the placement and curvature of the beading was genius!

I loved the retro hairstyle which was a BIG trend on the Red Carpet!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....85th Annual Academy Awards: Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Couture

1
1
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013: After viewing the recent Elie Saab Couture Collection in January, I knew that somebody would arrive to the Oscars Red Carpet in one of these amazing gowns.

Sandra Bullock was the one to do it tonight in this gorgeous Black Lace Scalloped and Beaded fitted gown. They, of course, smartly added a lining to the Runway dress for Miss Sandra!!

Loved the dress but she did wear a Diamond Pin in her hair which might be a bit controversial...What did you think?
