WHAT: Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019.

INSPIRATION: For her Spring/Summer 2019 collection for the French fashion house of Dior, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired by the circus. First, there was Richard Avedon's famous photo "Dovima with Elephants" photographed at Paris's Cirque d'Hiver in 1955...

As well as circus paintings from Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau and others, which inspired her...

She also researched intricately gorgeous circus costumes (all hand embroidered!) from Gerard Vicaire. For the show, she literally put on a show, bringing in the London-based all-female circus acrobat troupe, Mimbre, to accomplish incredibly limber feats of acrobatic choreography as the models showed look after look of all hand-done works of couture fashion art:
