In my last ICE STYLE post HERE, I discussed the costumes from the LADIES and MEN of the 2019 NHK Trophy ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating competition...so now it is time to talk about the costumes of the ICE DANCE and PAIRS...

Let's start with ICE DANCE:
Shiyue Wang and Xinyu Liu China Rhythm Dance to The Look-A-Like Contest by Christopher Curtis, Life Can Be Like the Movies by Christopher Curtis, Titine (from "Modern Times") by Leo Daniderff--For their Rhythm Dance, this Chinese pair was costumed a la Charlie Chaplin following the 2006 musical "Chaplin", of course. I liked how chic and sleek these were, especially her almost Dior "Bar" Jacket-like. I also loved her black and silver painted nails (it's the little details that matter!). He also looked nice. I am not normally a fan of matching outfits but here they worked.

Free Dance to Nina's Dream, Perfection, A Swan Is Born (from "Black Swan" soundtrack) by Clint Mansell based on Swan Lake by P. I. Tchaikovski--These were stunning costumes. Period. Hers featured a nude illusion top with silver/black sequin applique and a chiffon flowy dress. He was actually THE COSTUME STAR! I loved his black swan "wings" displayed proudly on his white knit jersey top. This was a perfect costumed ICE DANCE pairing. Gorgeous!

Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri Italy Free Dance to Space Oddity by David Bowie performed by Amanda Palmer Jherez Bischoff, Life on Mars? by David Bowie performed by Lukas Nelson, Promise of the Real, Space Oddity by David Bowie performed by Amanda Palmer Jherez Bischoff--I just LOVED these costumes worn by Italians Guignard and Fabbri for their Free Dance. The "Cosmic Chic" looks were sublime, fashion-forward and on-point with the music. Fabbri's black look included the requisite black pants and a great mock-neck stretch top with a sequined-and-sheer sleeve. Charlene was like a Space Odyssey-Paco Rabanne-Courreges Fashion Diva in this ivory look featuring beautiful, sequined spider web-like detail and a slit-front mini skirt.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron France Rhythm Dance to I Can Do Anything Better Than You Can by S. Linzer & D. Wolfert (arrang. by Maxime Rodriguez) from "Fame" by Michael Gore, Dean Pitchsord, Fame by Michael Gore, Dean Pitchsford (arranged by Maxime Rodriguez and Ludivine Amado), Fame by Michael Gore, Dean Pitchsford, performed by Irene Cara--Take a big guess what Papadakis and Cizeron skated to for their Rhythm Dance. If you guessed Olivia Newton-John's "Physical"? Nope. But if you guessed "Flashdance"? You get a prize! The skate and these costumes were EVERYTHING!!! Only this fab French Ice Dance pair can pull off 80's leotards, headbands and legwarmers in such a flawless manner that no one, absolutely NO ONE, batted an eyelash! It was fab cheesy, disco-licious and Retro Chic, all at the same time. Oh, and their Rhythm Dance left me in a jazzercise sweat: J'adore!

Free Dance to Danny by Olafur Arnalds, Find Me by Forest Blakk, Suspects by Olafur Arnalds--Skating to the gorgeous music from the British TV drama "Broadchurch" and a spoken word poem, Papadakis and Cizeron took Ice Dance to yet even more heightened level. Their simple, modern dance-like costumes mirrored the music and choreography beautifully and seamlessly; the sheer vs. solid all-black looks was directional and almost became invisible within their incredible skating. These looks were a costume change from what they had worn before and added the silver "splashes" on their tops: I LOVED that! The silver detail added a nice visual element to their otherwise very monochrome all-black looks.

And...in case you were wondering what those all-black looks were:

PAIRS:
Kirsten Moore-Towers and Michael Marinaro Canada Short Program to Love On the Brain (Los Feliz Blvd) feat. Bishop Briggs--I liked these pretty costumes worn by Kirsten and Michael. The striped sequin detail on her dress was nice: There was an Art Deco/Erte element to her graphic costume and very "Rockettes".  I also liked his "subdued" version of her striped look. Very nice.

Free Skate to Carry You by Ruelle (feat. Fleurie)--I really liked Kirsten's nude/peach one-shoulder draped dress that she wore for her Free Skate with Michael. It was fashionable, the sequin applique looked expensive and I also appreciated the "crown" on her head.

Wenjing Sui and Cong Han China Short Program to Blues Deluxe by Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart performed by Joe Bonamassa--These looks make me want to go out dancing at a Blues/Jazz concert! Her one-shoulder black costume with silver sequins was THE DEFINITION of "Razzle Dazzle". I especially loved his silver crystal raw-edge "suspenders"; they looked as if they had been torn off after too much dancing fun! And...(yes, there is more!), his studded jeans were quite fab too!
