WHO WORE WHAT?.....OSCARS 2019: Lady Gaga in Alexander McQueen

Lady Gaga in Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton

EVERYONE was waiting breathlessly for what Lady Gaga would wear for this year's Academy Awards. Would it live up to that gorgeous Valentino Haute Couture periwinkle moment at the 2019 Golden Globes? Well...it was a beautiful gown, a strong shape and a nice red carpet moment: She wore this strapless muted black mermaid shaped gown from Alexander McQueen designed by Sarah Burton.  Throughout her career Gaga has had strong ties to Alexander McQueen, the man himself and the House. Include her "Born This Way" foundation mission statement for mental help and the connection seems like a perfect match.

Part of me wishes this was more of a GOWN moment but she left that for something else...The gown featured exaggerated hips and gathered below-the-hips full attached skirt, leather gloves AND...a VERY EXPENSIVE Tiffany diamond necklace...

WHO WORE WHAT?.....2017 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet: Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen Spring 2017

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen Spring 2017: It seems as if the 2017 Golden Globes Red Carpet was having a bit of a "Game of Thrones"/Renaissance/Medieval Fashion Moment. There were several cold shoulder sleeves, lots of metallics, and silhouettes that would be perfect for the Daenerys Targaryen's, Cersei Lannister's and a little bit of Catherine de Medici for good measure. And Nicole Kidman was right in there in the fashion moment with this silver and white gown from Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2017 collection by designer Sarah Burton...

My Thoughts: The gown was VERY intricate and featured puffy open-shoulder sleeves, white/nude chiffon, beautiful silver paillette embroidery and a torn-like chiffon hem. It also has caged boning that can be seen through the gown. It was a work of fashion art. I am sure many of you might think this is a mess on Nicole but...I actually like it! I applaud Nicole for always being a little bit on the cutting edge of red carpet fashion (remember her chartreuse colored John Galliano Chinoiserie gown at the 1997 Oscars?) and for once again, "going there" in this dress. Sooooo...what did YOU guys think?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....87th Annual Academy Awards: Felicity Jones in Custom Alexander McQueen

Felicity Jones in Custom Alexander McQueen designed by Sarah Burton--2015 Academy Awards

Well, well, well...here we have Felicity Jones in Custom Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton. The silver gray silk satin ball gown with sequined halter neckline top section. the gown is A LOT. And to be honest, not in a good way. I think this is overwhelming on her and isn't really flattering. She could have worn one of those STUNNING Elie Saab Haute Couture ball gown and looked much, much better. I think this is too heavy and too high waisted as well. If I would change something, I would have dropped the waist and lessened the gathering on the sides of the gown.

Would love to know what you guys think?  Yay or Nay?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....Golden Globes 2015: Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

WHO WORE WHAT?.....Golden Globes 2015: Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

Salma Hayek wore this ivory strapless brocade ball gown by Alexander McQueen. Her husband, as you may know, is Francois-Henri Pinault, Chairman of Kering, the French luxury goods company that owns Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen, so naturally, Hayek wore a brand owned by her husband, Thank You very much. It's a pretty gown but I think Salma OVER styled it...

Too Mucheey: Not only does she have diamond feather earrings, a diamond cuff, a jeweled purse, then there's a silver metallic belt...and if that wasn't enough...she added flowers in her hair! She looks more like a "Miss Universe" contestant at a "Pageant Arrival Dinner" than an A-List Hollywood actress (and not to mention the wife of a a man who is worth an estimated $15 BILLION!).

I think Salma could have done without so much stuff. And I haven't even mentioned that the strapless bustier section is GAPING and fits oddly (it looks like they needed to add a gusset to the side seam) and from the looks of the gown hem, it seems to have been hemmed quite a bit (about 10 inches) as seen from a slightly visible hem stitch toward the bottom of the dress.
