Balmain Goes Tribal, Roll & Roll Runway Headbanger: Balmain Fall 2017

WHAT: Balmain Fall 2017. When Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing sent out a bevy of his Balmain Power Divas strutting down the runway to "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and "Rock The Night", you knew the 80's ARE BACK! And not just the 80's but more specifically, the EARLY 80's no less! You can just imagine all these six foot tall models headbanging at a sweaty Hollywood club...in their $10,000 Balmain studded, feathered and sequined frocks!

TRENDS: 1980's, of course! Feathered, Fringe, Power Shoulders, Studded, Leather, Python skin, Oversized Jackets, Exaggerated Sleeves, Drop-shoulder, Saharienne Rocker Chic.

RUNWAY REPORT.....CHANEL RTW Spring/Summer 2015

Travel in Style: Chanel Spring/Summer 2016

WHAT: Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2016. Karl Lagerfeld--and his no-money-limits Chanel bosses--turned Paris' Grand Palais into a "Chanel Airport Terminal" where models checked into the fantasy all-Premium Class (one presumes) Chanel Airline flights.

Grand Palais Terminal: Chanel Spring/Summer 2016

As someone who has spent plenty of hours at an airport terminal waiting for their delayed flight, I can attest to the fact that I pass the time by staring at the usually not-so good display of fashion on display at the airport. Just because it's such an awful place to have to go to (hello security!), doesn't mean you should get a pass for dressing so terribly. And that was Lagerfeld's point.

Chanel Casino Gals: Chanel Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2015

Theme: "Casino Chanel" was the setting, with celebs Julianne Moore, Kristen Stewart, model Lara Stone and Rita Ora, to name a few, strewn throughout, gambling on the set-up Black Jack tables...
Lord--and the Chanel owners, the Wertheimer family--only knows how much it cost to get them--plus the Casino set. But, as we know, people buy LOTS of those purses and LOTS of those perfumes...therefore, a multi-million dollar set such as this (including the fee to fly these stars via private plane) is pittance. And worth it. In their eyes. The clothes: marvelous. The "Day" suits were incredible; they should be when you are paying $50,000 for one.

Colors: Creme; ivory; lipstick red; wine; navy; teal; grape.

Trends: Shoulder emphasis; epaulets; pencil skirts vs. full A-line shapes; tea-length bell-shaped gowns; 20's-30's inspired chiffon dresses; the elbow length sleeve; hi-lo; fishtail hem; tiered dresses.

Flower Couture: Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015

The Look: Flower Power! Karl Lagerfeld spun a Flower Web of Couture showcasing beautiful suitings, dresses in a collection that yelled "Spring!" and had all the details exemplified by the artistry of Couture. Lots of hand sewn silk flower petals with sequins and sublime tweed and boucle, as always. The final wedding gown--by the way--took 15 women one month to make. And you wonder why something like that would cost in the regions of $200,000+ .

Colors: Electric blue, red, creme, pea green, black and white, rose pink,

Trends: Fringed tweed, maxi skirts, mid-leg booties, lots of flower for Spring/Summer 2015, cropped jackets, dirndl skirts.

Windowpane Color Blocked Sexiness: Balmain Spring/Summer 2015

Themes: 28 year-old Balmain Designer/Creative Director Olivier Rousteing (above) said that this collection was about Transparency and Sexy and 90's Supermodels. That's nice to hear from someone who was born in...1986. There were also Mondrian-like moments in terms of the colors, and lots of SEX. I also can't help but think when looking at each and every one of these looks how VERY Kim K these are. If that isn't his muse, she should be.

Trends: Sheer/Solid; bright colors; windowpane plaids; color blocking; sexy, fitted; below-the-knee dresses; super-long pants; high-waist; peek-a-boo skin reveal; 80's/early 90's Shoulders; Sleeveless Jackets; bandeau-top dressing; 70's "Studio 54" jumpsuits.

Colors: Highlighter yellow; white/navy blue; white; "Rainbow" colors; black and white; red; black.

RUNWAY REPORT.....Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week: Chanel Couture A/W 2014

Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2014

Themes: 'It's Baroque meets Le Corbusier,' said Karl, explaining that his inspiration was images of a Thirties apartment by the architect of Modernism. Yes, there was the obvious influence of Le Corbusier and Baroque but also, lots of Rococo and Infanta Balenciaga-esque references thrown in as well. The collection was GORGEOUS, EXPENSIVE, and when seen in the runway video at the end, can attest to all the magnificent and extreme craftsmanship of the Haute Couture ateliers of Chanel. Side Notes: the Finale Bride was 7-months pregnant London-born New Zealand-raised model Ashleigh Good, and yes, that was Kendall Jenner (of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" fame) modeling in the show.
Trends: Modern Excess; A-line skirts; biker shorts under skirts; mink!; structured shoulders; sequin dresses; the "Infanta" bell shape.
Colors: White, creme, slate-blue, fire-red, gold, gray, baby blue.
