ICE STYLE.....2014 Trophée Éric Bompard Figure Skating Costumes: LADIES, MEN

Costume Ice Prince and Princess: (L to R) Russia's Julia Lipnitskaia (who got the silver medal) and Kazakhstan's Denis Ten (who got the bronze)--2014 Trophee Eric Bompard Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Bordeaux France

This past weekend, the 2014 Trophée Éric Bompard occurred. It is the fifth of six ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events/competitions. Trophée Éric Bompard was held at the Meriadeck Ice Rink in Bordeaux, France.

Now, it's time for my Costumes Recap of the event. In this post, it's all about the LADIES and the MEN. There were COSTUME CHANGES and a WARDROBE MALFUNCTION...

Let's begin with the LADIES Costumes Recap:
Top Three Ladies: (L to R) Silver medalists Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia, gold medalist Elena Radionova of Russia and USA's bronze medalist Ashley Wagner--2014 Trophee Eric Bompard, Bordeaux France

Ashley Wagner of the USA: I have discussed Ashley's Short Program and Free Skate costumes HERE .

Elena Radionova of Russia: I've also commented on this Free Skate costume of Elena's HERE.

Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia: For her Free Skate to "Romeo and Juliet" by Nino Rota
"Mother's Journey" (from "Good Bye Lenin" soundtrack) by Yann Tiersen and
"Forbidden Love" (from "Romeo and Juliet" soundtrack) by Abel Korzeniowski, Julia changed her costume. For 2014 Trophee Eric Bompard this weekend, she wore a golden/nude costume with long sleeves and lace/sequined applique detail. It was nice but I have to say, when she is already quite "golden creme" (Read: PASTY) in her skin color, why would she wear this?  This is what she wore before...

Julia Lipnitskaia at the 2014 Lexus Cup of China and Free Skate--she wore this baby blue costume. Do you guys like her in BEIGE or BLUE?

Mae Berenice Meite of France: For her Free Skate, Mae Berenice also had a costume change. She decided to nix the jumpsuit and wear this royal blue costume with sequined neckline and torso. While it was very "Figure Skating Costume 101", it was still quite nice and it had a beautiful beaded back detail.

For her Short Program, I discussed her costume HERE (PS: I liked it!).

MEN:
Top Three Men: (L to R) Japan's Tatsuki Machida (silver), Maxim Kovtun (gold), and Denis Ten of Kazakhstan (bronze)--2014 Trophee Eric Bompard, Bordeaux France

Maxim Kovtun of Russia: I have discussed this "Robocop"/"Tron"-looking Free Skate costume HERE.

Richard Dornbush of the USA: I've also discussed this Free Skate costume--designed by his mom, Shelley Dornbush--HERE (PS: I Loved It!).

Tatsuki Machida of Japan: I've also commented on this Free Skate costume above HERE.

Chafik Besseghier of France: Chafik wore this costume above for his Short Program to "Heat" and "Clozee Mountain Legend". The look featured a colorful top with "grafitti"-like details on a black v-neck t-shirt, black gloves and black pants. The pants had sequined-embellished patch pockets. I thought this was an "interesting" look--kind of street cool mixed with the necessary sparkle needed for figure skating.

For his Free Skate to "Road Game" by Kavinsky and "You and Me" by Disclosure ft. Eliza Doolittle, Chafik decided to wear a white tuxedo-like shirt with "un-tied" sequined bow tie. Now, what I found interesting here is that he wore THE SAME PANTS he wore for his Short Program. There's no problem with doing this and in fact, the same pants work with both outfits, however, it makes me also think that either A) the costume designer is being completely un-creative and/or B) poor Chafik has no costume budget!

Denis Ten of Kazakhstan: This above is the costume Denis wore at 2014 Trophee Eric Bompard for his Free Skate to "Ambush from Ten Sides for Pipa, Sheng, Guitar, Cello and Orchestra" by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble and "Vocussion" by Sandeep Das, Joseph Gramley, Dong-Won Kim, Shane Shanahan and Mark Suter. I liked the colors and one shoulder-like drape with bejeweled belt giving hints to traditional Kazakh costumes. The blue also pays homage to the flag color of Kazakhstan. This costume, by the way, was a COSTUME CHANGE from what he wore at...

2014 Skate America in October at the start of the ISU 2014-2015 Grand Prix events (photo above)--Which one do you guys like best? I think the one above is a bit more polished and elegant.

But part of me wished he could somehow skate in this:
The costume worn by the Kazakh flag bearer, cross-country skier Yerdos Akhmadiyev at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony

Adam Rippon of the USA: Adam wore this very sleek and chic costume for his Short Program to "Tuxedo Junction" by Quincy Jones. I loved the directionality of this and I especially liked the nude vs. solid top. I have to add that this costume is something that I could have also seen on 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist Evan Lysacek.

For his Free Skate to "Piano Concerto No. 1" by Franz Liszt, Adam wore a slightly see-through sequined shirt and black pants. The shirt fit him nice and tight--like the previous one in his SP. Adam has the fat-free body to pull off these second-skin looks. During his Free Skate, however, there was a "wardrobe malfunction" which might lead me to believe that maybe his costumes are a teeny too tight:

His shirt split open in the side seam right by the underarm. Thank goodness it didn't split all the way down (although seeing Adam's six-pack abs might have been a nice surprise).
