ICE STYLE.....2014 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals: ICE DANCE, PAIRS

Ice Dance Costume King and Queen: Canadian Ice Dance couple Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje in their Short and Free Dance costumes--2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Barcelona Spain

A couple of weeks back the 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals  took place in Barcelona Spain. As part of my love of figure skating and figure skating costumes, naturally I discussed the LADIES and MEN costumes last week here on my blog and because of the Holiday break, I didn't get a chance to talk about my favorites of the ICE DANCE and PAIRS so...better late than never and so therefore, here is my FASHION RECAP of the Ice Dance and Pairs costumes form the 2014 Grand Prix Finals in Barcelona.

Let's begin with the ICE DANCE:
Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Canada Short Dance: Weaver and Poje skated their 2014-2015 Season Flamenco Short Dance to "La Virgen de la Macarena" in these fabulous costumes above. I LOVED them! They were so intricate, so precise, so outstanding...

I can't even pick a favorite between these two. Andrew's Toreador was sublime, elegant, sexy and filled with all the fabulous gold applique and sequined embroidery that would make any top Matador BLUSH! And Kaitlyn's red dress with gold torso applique was beautiful, very Lacroix, and perfect for the dance music.

Free Dance to "Spring", "Summer 1", "Summer 3", and "Winter" from "Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi arranged by Max Richter--I discussed HERE how these were two of my favorite figure skating ICE DANCE costumes this season! Modern, colorful, new and quite fashionable.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates of USA, Short Dance: US Ice Dance pair Chock and Bates skated their Short Dance to "Don Quixote" by Leon Minkus and I also loved these costumes. They weren't as impacting as the Canadians but they told a sexier story with these costumes. Madison's plunging neckline sensual flamenco dress was EVERYTHING and Evan's all black stretch velvet with sequined detail Toreador was after-midnight Toreador. #Fantastic

Free Dance to "An American in Paris", these costumes continued the sensual theme Chock and Bates began with their fiery Flamenco Short Dance. As a fashion designer, I admired the asymmetrical neckline and color block dress on Madison. And Evan's all black look featuring a boat-neck top with side sequined detail with black pants was the right costume counterpart.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron of France, Free Dance: One of my other favorite Ice Dance teams--in terms of their Free Dance costumes--were Papadakis and Cizeron of France. they wore these ethereal and modern-ballet-like costumes for their Free Dance to "Adagio from Concerto No. 23" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I discussed these costumes HERE so you can read how much I liked them.

Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada, Free Dance: These costumes above is what this Canadian Ice Dance pair wore for their Free Dance to "A Street Car Named Desire Overture" from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", "Si tu voi ma mere" and "Dans les rues d'Antibes" by Sidney Bechet. I liked these costumes and thought her flowy charmeuse dress was very 1930's Period and looked like something from a 30's Vogue Magazine. The "Costume Stars", however, were what they wore for their Short Dance which I talked about HERE.

Maia and Alex Shibutani of the USA, Short Program: Brother and sister Ice Dance team, the Shibutani's wore these costumes above for their Flamenco and Paso Doble Short Dance to "Asturias Variations" and  "The Last Corrida". They were OK but not outstanding, especially after seeing what the Canadians Weaver and Poje and Gilles and Poirier wore for their Spanish-themed Short Dances...well, these looked almost store-bought!

PAIRS-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Canada's Gold medal-winning pairs, Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford--2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals, Barcelona Spain

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford of Canada, Free Skate: Duhamel and Radford skated their gold medal-winning Free Skate to "Neutron Star Collision", "I Belong to You" (from "Samson and Delilah") and "Uprising" by Muse in these costumes. I thought they were pretty fabulous, especially hers. I thought the one-shoulder design really highlighted Meagan's INCREDIBLE physique--and those amazingly toned arms and shoulders especially. The delicate beading and intricate midriff detail was also nice. I would have liked more of that sequin work on Eric's costume because I felt it needed a little "something". But, overall, very nice.

Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov of Russia: I thought Stolbova and Klimov of Russia were definite Costume Highlights at this year's 2014-2015 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Finals in Barcelona. I discussed these costumes HERE. And yes, I thought they were outstanding and great for their programs.

Finally...
Xiaoyu Yu and Yang Jin of China, Free Program: This Chinese pairs skated their Free Program to "Humility and Love" (from "Creation" soundtrack) and I really liked these costumes, and therefore I put them here in my "Best of" section of this blog.  I loved the fluid drape of his top and I also liked her light blue costume. The bead work on hers was exquisite and the applique formed quite a nice neckline detail.
