PROJECT RUNWAY.....Project Runway: Under The Gunn Episode 12 RECAP

Marvel Style: Mentors Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos with designers Sam Donovan, Asha Daniels, Shan Keith and Oscar Gracia-Lopez, at Meldown Comics and Collectibles store, Hollywood CA--Project Runway: Under The Gunn "Superhero Fashion" Episode

This past week's episode of Lifetime Network's "Project Runway: Under the Gunn"--was the penultimate challenge of the season-- The designers were to create a look inspired by a Marvel Comics Superhero. All three mentors are still on the show and only four designers are left--Mondo Guerra has 2, Anya Ayoung-Chee has one...

Oscar and Nick: Oscar Garcia-Lopez and Nick Verreos--Meldown Comics and Collectibles store, Hollywood CA--Project Runway: Under The Gunn "Superhero Fashion" Episode

And I also only have one designer, Oscar Garcia-Lopez. For the introduction of this "Supehero Fashion" challenge, we all met up very early in the morning at Meldown Comics and Collectibles store in Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. The reason we were there so early is obvious: the producers wanted to film before the store opened and that early in the morning, curious people walking Sunset Blvd. would not be milling around wondering why Tim Gunn is in the store? (Hello!)

Mentors and Designers--Benefit Cosmetics Challenge Episode 11"The Benefit of Fashion" Project Runway: Under The Gunn

On this week's "Project Runway: Under The Gunn", it was time for the Benefit Cosmetics Challenge! There are thirteen episodes and this is the 11th one (so, yes, kids--only two more to go after this!). This week's challenge was the "Real Woman Challenge" where the remaining designers had to create a look for a real client--as opposed to a 5' 11" size 2 superhuman model...

In The Mall: Designers and Mentors in front of Francesca's Collections store in the Manhattan Village Mall: Manhattan Beach, CA--Episode 10 "Crossing Teams" Project Runway: Under The Gunn

This week on Lifetime Network's "Project Runway: Under The Gunn", each Mentor has two designers left on our "teams". Therefore the producers decided to do another "Team Challenge" in which each team would consist of two designers, each of the designers from different mentors.

The challenge was to design a three-look group for Francesca's Collections, the retail partner/sponsor of "Project Runway: Under The Gunn". The location for the "Challenge Introduction" was the Manhattan Beach location of Francesca's in the Manhattan Village Mall near Los Angeles.

Team Nick: (L to R) Designers Natalia Oscar Gracia-Lopez and Nick Verreos--Episode 9 "'Trouble in the Lounge" Lifetime Network's Project Runway: Under The Gunn

This week's "Project Runway: Under The Gunn" was DRAMA-filled. As I like to say, it was a DOOZY. I will get to the Natalia Getting Bullied/Mentor Lounge Drama--as well as the Fashion--but first, let's discuss the actual challenge. This week there was a sponsor tie-in with Glade® Customizables  and therefore this was the Glade Customizable Challenge: to create a Day-to-Night look...

Mentors on The Beach: (L to R) Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos, Santa Monica Beach--Project Runway: Under The Gunn Episode 8 "It's the Unconventional Beach Party"

This week on Lifetime Network's "Project Runway: Under The Gunn", it was the much-loved "Unconventional Challenge". This challenge is very popular for "Project Runway" fans since it's when designers make something FAB out of non-fashion-y things--such as coffee filters, car parts,  pets supplies or even flowers (like in my season).

Beach Party: Project Runway: Under The Gunn Episode 8 "It's the Unconventional Beach Party"

This time, the designers--and the mentors--of "Under the Gunn", went to THE BEACH. The challenge was to design and create a look using ONLY items found at the beach--in this makeshift "Under The Gunn Beach Party":

PROJECT RUNWAY.....Project Runway: Under the Gunn Episode 7 Recap: Steampunk

Mentor Steampunk: (Left to right) Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos--Griffith Park's "Travel Town" Los Angeles--Episode 7 "Steampunk Chic" Project Ruwnay: Under The Gunn

This week on Lifetime Network's "Project Runway: Under The Gunn", it was the Avant-Garde challenge. The theme was Steampunk.  In case you might be "out of the look", Steampunk style deals with fashion inspired from the genre of science fiction, which is inspired by steam-powered machinery and involves an "alternative world" of both 19th Century Victorian and American "Wild West" as well as a post-apocalyptic world involving retro-futurism. Yep: go figure...

Where's the first "Under The Gunn" Winner? Mentor Nick Verreos with designers Natalia Fedner, Oscar Garcia-Lopez and Stephanie Ohnmacht at "Travel Town"/Griffith Park--Episode 7 "Steampunk Chic" Project Runway: Under The Gunn

I was excited to be mentoring this challenge for my designers, mainly because I LOVE an Avant-Garde Challenge and because of Season 11 "Project Runway" winner Michelle Lesniak and her Finale Collection. It wasn't until Michelle that I truly became aware of what Steampunk even was (Thank You Michelle!). We drove to Griffith Park's "Travel Town" very early in the morning to film the Challenge Introduction:

PROJECT RUNWAY.....Project Runway: Under The Gunn, Episode 6 Recap

Nick Verreos, Getty Villa/J. Paul Getty Museum, Pacific Palisades California--Episode 6 "Pompeii Team Challenge" Project Runway: Under The Gunn

This past week's episode of Lifetime's "Project Runway: Under the Gunn" was the dreaded TEAM CHALLENGE. We're almost halfway through the season and it made sense since each mentor's team of designers were now "even-steven", i.e. three in each. The Challenge was to create a 3-look "mini collection" inspired by the new film...

Praying to the Couture Gods of Christian Dior, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, Cristobal Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent that we can get through it: Mentor Nick Verreos, designer Oscar Garcia-Lopez and Isabelle Donola's model Ashleigh--Lifetime's "Under The Gunn" Episode 5

Mentor Nick and his designers--Lifetime's "Under The Gunn" Opening Credits

This week's episode of Lifetime Network's Project Runway "Under The Gunn" was another DOOZY. It seems that the "Nick-is-a-Bad-Mentor Train" has seen no end--to my surprise(!) since I LIVED it. Anyhow--I'll get to that, my shock and disappointment at the "story arc" and the "Throwing Isabelle Under the Bus" stuff--later in this blog. After all, this is my "Nick's Take"/Inside Dish...

Comin' Around The Corner: Starline Hollywood Double-Decker Tour Bus pulling up in Downtown L.A. getting ready for the "Under The Gunn" Hollywood tour--"Under The Gunn" Episode 3 Lifetime TV

This week on Lifetime's "Under the Gunn"....the contestants face their FIRST Challenge after we, the Mentors, picked our four designers, in other words now the competition REALLY can begin. Being that we were in Los Angeles, it was only inevitable that the first challenge was to create a look for the Red Carpet.

PROJECT RUNWAY.....Project Runway: Under the Gunn Recaps, Episode 2

Mentors...Tim Gunn and "Under The Gunn" Mentors (left to right) Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos--"Under The Gunn" Lifetime Network

Hello Everyone! Hope you enjoyed Episode 2 of  Lifetime's "Under The Gunn"! It's been very interesting--to say the least--watching the episodes--and going through the whole "rejection" process. All. Over. Again. Before I get to my "Nick's Take" on the episode, let's recap the premise of the episode. Last week, we, the mentors, had to chose designers for our "teams" out of the first group of eight designers. This week, it was time to do it all over again--from the remaining seven.

Run for Your Fabric Lives: Designers run to grab their fabrics--"Under The Gunn" Episode  2, FIDM Grand Hope Park, Downtown L.A.

The designers' challenge was to grab as much fabric from Mood Fabrics bins that were placed outside of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM campus in the middle of Grand Hope Park in Downtown L.A. Then, they headed back to the workroom to crate a look that "best represented who they were as a designer".

PROJECT RUNWAY.....Project Runway: Under the Gunn Recap Episode 1

Le Mentors: (left to right) Mondo Guerra, Anya Ayoung-Chee and Nick Verreos "Under The Gunn", Hope Park, Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM

Thursday night was the Premiere of "Under The Gunn" on Lifetime. I'm honored and proud to be one of the three Mentors along with Season 9 Winner Anya Ayoung-Chee and Project Runway All Stars Season 1 Winner Mondo Guerra. On the show, it will be our job to mentor, guide, manage, coach, cheerlead and, when necessary, knock down with tough love, a team of designers in order to lead them to runway success. The premiere episode was a doozy, to say the least. Before I give you my "Nick Take" on a couple of things (yes, I'm talking about being rejected OVER and OVER...and OVER again, by the designers), I want to begin with how AMAZING it was to be standing at my Alma Mater--the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM--along with my fellow mentors but more importantly with TIM GUNN:
