WHAT: Christian Dior Resort 2018. This was Maria Grazia Chiuri's first Resort Collection for the French fashion house and it took place yesterday, not in Paris, but...Calabasas! The Resort Collections have become a season for travel. Not just in the clothing being presented, but for the actual shows. Runway Shows are being staged not only in Paris and Milan, but also in Kyoto Japan and for Dior, The Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, California. Calabasas is now known as the home for celebrities such as the Kardashian Clan, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Drake and Britney Spears...to name just a few. But last night Dior brought a whole different list of celebrities including Rihanna, Charlize Theron, Solange Knowles and Miranda Kerr to the outskirts of Los Angeles.

INSPIRATION: Dior's Artistic Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri admitted that the location was chosen prior to her arriving at the company, but that didn't stop her from finding inspiration in the location and from the Dior archives. Chiuri drew inspiration from the house founder’s Lascaux collection of 1951, inspired by the ancient cave paintings discovered in southwestern France a decade earlier.

SEEN ON THE RUNWAY: Coachella, Hippie-chick-meets-Spaghetti Western. Western hats, furs, bustier dresses, A-line dresses, nipped-in waists, ponchos-as-skirts, fringe, Navajo/New Mexico influences, updated Bar Jackets.
