This past week, I had the wonderful opportunity to fly to NYC for an exciting design contest and New York Fashion Week--all at the same time! As the newly-appointed Co-Chairs of Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising/FIDM, David Paul and I went to NY to represent the college and support one of the Finalists of the 2018 Supima Design Competition. Launched in 2008, the Supima Design Competition was created to introduce the next generation of designers to the fashion industry.

Graduating Seniors are chosen from top U.S. design schools, including my Alma Mater FIDM--as well as Parson School of Design, FIT, the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Kent State University, the Rhode Island School of Design and Savannah College of Art and Design/SCAD--to create a capsule collection of designs using premium SUPIMA cottons...

The designer/finalists worked with a mentor. Designer Bibhu Mohapatra was their official SUPIMA mentor--in creating their collection, and then it was judged by a prestigious panel from the fashion and media world.

Lili Shi of FIT--She photographed the "Mona Lisa" as well as herself, then painted it onto cotton fabric, cut the fabric in small puzzle-like pieces and then joined them together. The resulting images could only really be clearly seen when photographed:

Project Runway Canada Reunion--What a WONDERFUL treat to run into Marie Genevieve Cyr, who is a designer and Parsons educator, but I originally met her ELEVEN YEARS AGO...when she was a Designer/Contestant on "Project Runway Canada" in 2007 when I was invited to be the Guest Mentor when they came to Southern California to film at FIDM
