WHAT: Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019...

INSPIRATION: There were two inspirations for Giambattista Valli: First, it was the famous Le Bain Turc by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, a painting infused with an elegant sense of erotic privacy.

The other was a Helmut Newton picture taken in Yves Saint Laurent’s Avenue Marceau salon in 1977 during one of his haute couture fittings, in which models dressed in his fabulously exquisite tenues de soirée were relaxing on gilded chaises, with an attitude of sophisticated abandon.

Inspiration: Poufs, Feathers, Lame, Fuchsia, The Fez Hat....Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture

The inspirations seemed obvious: The over-the-top pouffed sleeves, superb hi-lo skirt shapes, see-through Helmut Newton-like muses, coq feathered looks, gold lame, bubblegum pink satins....to the Marrakesh-like Fez hats....it was a definite homage to The Master, Yves Saint Laurent; his fashions, his COUTURE, and his love of Morocco, the Sevillanas, Bizet's ultimate "Carmen"...all infused into one fabulous collection!

There were plenty party and gala dresses for his Valli gals to love (if they have a couple of $100,000 to spare!)...and one or two...or TEN...gowns perfect for the Oscars (Hello Lady Gaga!)...Bring on the VOLUME and FABULOUSNESS!
