In the 4th episode of this season's "Project Runway", the Challenge involved FLOWERS and more specifically, flower prints. Since flower prints are always a big trend, especially for Spring/Summer fashion, this was a nice way to incorporate it as a design challenge...
Flower Runway Stage--Episode 4 "Flower Power" Project Runway
The show recruited the fabulous Lewis Miller, of Lewis Miller Design, known as the "Banksy of Flower Design" for this very special episode to introduce the challenge, along with judge Elaine Welteroth. Miller is known for "flower bombs"/"flower flash" that in the past several years have appeared seemingly out of nowhere gracing the streets, subway exits, and even trash containers, around NYC.

The morning of the episode introduction day, Miller and his team, created several "flower bombs", in our "Project Runway" workroom as well as outside areas in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the site of our filming location.

Unfortunately (for the beautiful outside flower displays), it was a morning of THUNDEROUS DOWNPOUR of RAIN, which made the outside flower bombs look, more "bomb'y", less flowery (photo above). Fortunately, none of the "flower bombs" indoors were affected, so the workroom looked quite pretty. Afterward, many of us (the producers) took some of the flowers back to our Airbnb's/Apartments to make them look a little more "decorated" :)

To make this "Flower Power" design challenge more exciting and bespoke, the designers got to create/design their own CUSTOM PRINT, that they would use as the main fabric in their design. We were fortunate to utilize the services of In Vogue Studios, a fabric printing service located in Manhattan. We bought different types of white fabric, in a Twill, a Knit, a Satin, and Mikado, and the designers designed and created their own prints that would then be printed onto the original "base" fabrics.

Loved the prints in this episode. So different than other seasons when designers made their own prints, and I liked it more! So beautiful! I'd like to try it on my own!
