SAG FAB!

Left to right: Tabatha Coffey, Nick Verreos, Ali Landry and Kyle Richards--TV Guide Network 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards Fashion Wrap TV Show

This past Monday, I filmed my TV Guide Network 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards Fashion Wrap TV show with host Ali Landry and fellow panelists Tabatha Coffey of Bravo's "Tabatha Takes Over" and Kyle Richards of Bravo's "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills". As always, I had a BLAST with my favorite ladies! We film at the Hollywood & Highland studios of TV Guide Network right smack in the heart of Hollywood. When I arrived there--very early in the AM, I was greeted by THIS:

A life-size SUBMARINE literally rising up and crashing through the center courtyard of the Hollywood & Highland Center--I HAD to dig through my "man-bag" and find my camera to take some photos! This was a Marketing/Promo for the Premiere of the FX Networks TV Show "The Americans" starring Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell.

The series is an 1980s Cold War drama about a group of Soviet KGB officers who have been trained to impersonate American citizens. Sounds very spy/thriller/espionage fab.

Crashing Sub: I have no idea HOW they did this but it should get an award for something! FX must have A TON of Marketing/Promo money because this must have cost them a pretty penny for sure. Oh, and on top of everything, later in the day, about 20 pasty Russian-looking sailors and Navy Officers (actors, I presume)--in full retro uniforms--surrounded the submarine as well well as got on top of it, shouting orders in Russian! Anyhow, it was a sight for my very tired early-morning I-have-to-shoot-a-TV-show puffy eyes, for sure!

La Dolce Vita, a la Valentino:

First Off, The Couture Details:

Hand-rolled piping--Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013

Back Alta Moda--Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013

Inside Dish--It Took HOW MANY HOURS TO MAKE THAT:
According to Tim Blanks of Style.com:
*Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli threw down a gauntlet with the ravishing Couture collection...But the duo enumerated the human cost in the show notes that sat on everyone's seats. The most extraordinary outfit in the presentation featured layer upon layer of organza, embroidered with butterflies and birds, the whole lot wrapped in a tulle cage scrolled with crepe piping.
*According to the notes, it took 500 hours of hand-rolling to produce the piping. And that was just one of the outfits that featured the effect. One roller apparently developed carpal tunnel syndrome during the production of the collection...
*one other organza jacket and skirt took 850 hours to embroider

 Close-Up Couture: Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013

The Look: Classic Couture. Very Roma Alta Moda. Stunning exquisitely executed coats, cocktail dresses, jackets and gowns. Hand-embroidered pieces of wearable ART.  Colors: white, black, Valentino Red, blush, light mint. Silk organza, crepes, gazars. One of the best Couture Collections this season. Even Mr. Valentino Garavani gave it a standing ovation. See for yourself in the video at the end of this post.

It's Ladies Time:

Top Four: Silver Medalist Gracie Gold, Gold Medalist Ashley Wagner, Bronze Medalists Agnes Zawadzski and Pewter Medalist Courtney Hicks 2013 Prudential U.S. Championships of Figure Skating, CenturyLink Center Omaha, Nebraska

If you read my last post HERE, you know, it's Figure Skating Costume "season" all over again--with the 2013 Prudential U.S. Championships of Figure Skating/U.S. Nationals--happening last week/weekend (as well as the European Figure Skating Championships which occurred in Zagreb Yugoslavia January 23-27th). In my last post, I spoke of the Men's Costumes, so now, it's Ladies Time:

Ashley Wagner--I've discussed Gold Medalist at the US Nationals 2013 Ashley Wagner's Short and Long Program costumes for this 2012-2013 Season extensively on my blog HERE, and yes, I liked them both, especially her Free Skate one. For her Short Program to "Red Violin", I liked the swirl crystal detail and even though it did have a slightly more relaxed look to it...it had a modern, balletic appeal and I loved the back straps which looked like violin strings.

Nebraska Gets Men-Dazzled:

The Top Four: (Left to right) Silver Medalist Ross Miner, Gold Medalist Max Aaron, Bronze Medalist Jeremy Abbott and Pewter Medalist Joshua Farris pose on the winner's stand after the Men's Free Skate competition during the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the CenturyLink Center on January 27, 2013 in Omaha, Nebraska

Last week and weekend (from January 19-January 27th), were the 2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships--or US Nationals of Figure Skating for short. They occurred at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of Men's singles, Ladies singles, Pairs skating, and Ice Dancing at the senior, junior and novice levels. For the first time, the event was expanded to include juvenile and intermediate level competitions, previously held at a separate event.

The results are part of the criteria used for the 2013 World Junior Championships, 2013 Four Continents Championships and 2013 World Championships. In other words, these US Championships were like the "Miss USA" pageant selecting who gets to go to "Miss Universe". Leave it to me to find a away to put Figure Skating AND Beauty pageants in one BLOG posting!

Chroreographer Lori Nichol and three-time U.S. Champion Figure Skater Rudy Galindo get inducted into the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame Class of 2013--2013 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships, CenturyLink Center Omaha, Nebraska.

Calling J. Lo:

Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013

The Look: Zuhair Murad is the other Lebanese born-and-bred couturier vying for the Top Red Carpet Spot. And by the looks of this particular collection, EVERY A-List Stylist need s to have his PR people on their iPhone (or Blackberry, if they're still doing "old school", like me). This collection was all about GOLD and Golden Greco-Roman Goddess. Nothing in between, just Grecian Goddess Red Carpet Divas. If you think this "trend" is gone, think again darlings. There were golden sequined jumpsuits, beautiful cocktail offerings and yes, gowns to make Jennifer Lopez squeal with delight--at over $100,000 each (if you were to actually order them--J.Lo gets to borrow for free). Interesting that the "Tom Ford Gwyneth Paltrow gown" made another appearance here at Couture Fashion Week. First it was Elie Saab and now Zuhair. The Gown "over cape" is an official trend kids. Thank Tom Ford for that.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013: Another actress in black last night was Tina Fey. For Tina, this was no surprise as this is her "go to" Red Carpet look.

As far as black dresses go, this was a great one on Tina Fey last night. She has come a long way in perfecting her Red Carpet looks over the years and she has really learned how to give a complete look. The Hair, Make-up, and accessories were perfect. And that belt makes the whole outfit!

Kudos Tina!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Lea Michele in Valentino

Lea Michele in Valentino Resort 2013: Like Rose Byrne Lea Michele chose a dress from the Valentino Resort 2013 collection. And it seems that when an actress did decide to wear color last night, it was a strong color.

I really like Lea in this Fushia Silk Gazar Strapless Gown with Ruffled Hem. It is a departure from the extremely sexy looks she has been wearing lately. It is nice to see her looking young and fresh! The hair make-up and fabulous earrings were just right.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Rose Byrne in Valentino

Rose Byrne in Valentino Resort 2013: Another unusual choice on the Red Carpet last night was Rose Byrne wearing a Floral Silk Gazar Boat Neck Gown with Side Ruffle Detail.

Not everyone could get away with this look, but on a Fashion Plate like Rose Byrne, I love it! She is VERY on trend and trust me, you will be seeing florals like this in every store this spring. I love the dainty belted waist to give her shape and the strong pink lip really makes her Pop!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab

Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab Spring 2013: While most actresses opted for black last night at the 19th Annual SAG Awards, Nina chose color. She wore a Bubblegum Pink Silk Crepe Crew Neck Gown with Cap Sleeves and Lace insets.

Besides loving the color, I loved the lady-like glamour she was giving on the Red Carpet. Understated but incredibly chic!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen

0
0
Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2013: Amanda wore this Midnight Blue Strapless Gown with Layered and Extreme Mermaid Hem.

Posen is King of the extreme mermaid silhouette and Seyfried looked beautiful and dramatic in this gown. The sophisticated color added a chic element and the unique long necklace was an unexpected choice.

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Julianne Moore in Chanel Couture

0

Julianne Moore in Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2011: Julianne never plays it safe when it comes to the Red Carpet and she made another unique choice tonight. Moore (and her stylist) chose a Black and White (The BIGGEST trend of the night!) floral applique column dress with a plunging neckline that was shown on the runway 18 months ago. Que Horror! That's a lifetime in Fashion Years!

While I'm not sure about a white dress on someone so pale, it does highlight her face beautifully and her side-swept hair looks GORG!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli Couture

2
2
Anne Hathaway in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013: Wow! you know the Red Carpet is out of control when actresses are wearing $50,000 Haute Couture Gowns to the SAG Awards! Dresses that used to be reserved for the Academy Awards are now up for grabs for ANY Awards Show.

While I love Anne and Giambattista Valli, I am not 100% sold on the combination of this actress in this dress. This is another Haute Couture dress that walked the runway just last week and I think that Rachel Zoe might have gotten a bit carried away in putting this dress on Hathaway.

I'm hoping it looks better "in motion" while she is on stage tonight....What do you think?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: January Jones in Prabal Gurung

0
0
January Jones chose to wear this Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2013 Gown with a White Silk Gazar High Neck and Black Silk Crepe Draped Gown Skirt.

January Jones is always a Fashion risk-taker, and I appreciate her always attempting to push the "Red Carpet Boundaries". I think I would have preferred if she had worn the dress as it was originally designed. To me, that would have been an "edgier" choice.

Also, not too sure if I'm a fan of the hair. I'll have to see what Tabatha Coffey thinks tomorrow on our TV Guide SAG Awards Fashion Wrap!

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture

0
0
Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013: Jennifer Lawrence chose this "hot off the runway" Blue/Black Strapless Taffeta Gown by Christian Dior. The Fashion Show happened just last week, so this dress must have been quickly packed and sent to Lawrence's Stylist immediately after walking the runway!

It also looks slightly different so this could have been a version created just for Jennifer.

There is no doubt that Christian Dior Haute Couture is one of the hottest labels right now and every actress would die to wear one of Raf Simons' gowns, but with all the choices available to an A-List Actress like Jennifer, I am surprised by this very safe and rather boring choice.

What do you think?

WHO WORE WHAT?.....19th Annual SAG Awards: Naomi Watts in Marchesa

0
0
Naomi Watts in Marchesa Spring 2013: Naomi chose this silver lace strapless gown with elaborate beading from the Marchesa Spring 2013 Collection. She chose to modify it by removing the caplet and keeping it a bit more simple.

I'm not sure if this pale silver is the best color for her, being that she is so pale herself, but she looked very elegant and every bit the Hollywood A-List actress that she is.

Real Housewives of Mumbai:

Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013--Believe it or not, those little girls on the right came out from under the Finale Ball Gown on the left. Like Mother Gigogne from "The Nutcracker" but the India version.

The Look: The collection was supposed to be inspired by India. Tim Blanks of Style.com said it was less "Life of Pi" and more "Real Housewives of Mumbai". Ouch, I think. Nevertheless, I loved it. From the photos and video at the end of this post, one could see this was Gaultier's "vision" and/or fantastical vision of his India Couture Princesses. A Couture Trip to India. There were lots of overt Gypsy influences (and originally, the Gypsies came from India, so there!); lots of flowing multi-layered and multi-paneled long skirts, chiffon headscarves, cowl draping, intricate bead work. There were his iconic trench coats and sharp tailoring and yes, THE Madonna cone bra...

Calling all A-List Celeb Stylists Dressing for the Academy Awards:

Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013

According to Nicole Phelps of Style.com: "Elie Saab's phone has been ringing all week with celebrity stylists saying they'll be calling as soon as the Couture pictures are online. Either that, or they're asking for photos of the dozen or so dresses that aren't appearing on the catwalk. If it doesn't make it down the runway, it looks custom on the red carpet, even if if isn't. That can make the difference when an actress is choosing her gown for the Oscars..."  Interesante. Moving on...
The Look: Oscars. Red Carpet. Gorgeous sequined applique "day" sheaths, cocktail, evening gowns in column shapes as well the full "Ball Gown Lite" silhouette. This collection was breathtakingly luxe, expensive. I venture to guess, if someone (a very RICH Russian Billionaire's wife) was to order, the lowest priced garment would probably set them back maybe $40,000. Easily. For a "Daytime" Sheath Dress with that amazing Elie Saab hand-beaded embroidery. Of note, a couple of the looks were eerily similar to that Gwyneth Paltrow gown designed by Tom Ford that she wore to last year's Academy Awards. Interesante Part Deux. (Pics below in the post)

Here are some of my Favorite Looks--from "day" to The Wedding:
